2.1.1 Abstraction

Computer science commonly presents levels or layers of abstraction, where each level represents a different version of the same information, but with varying amounts of detail. Each “higher” level builds on a, “lower” level. This creates a smoother transition from each level to the next. E.G. the controls represented on a controller are an abstracted version of the circuit board bellow.

The different levels are used in different situations depending on the level of simplicity needed. Abstraction can be used to great effect to make others lives easier as the most complex version of something may not be suitable for all users. As a result Abstraction makes products more accessible however limits the flexibility at the same time.

Reality(highest detail) < Conceptual/View model(some abstraction) < Logical (diagram view) < Physical(computational solution)
